Arguably the most ancient, venerable, loved and worshipped of all productive trees. The roots (excuse the pun) of the Olive can be traced back through history, in the hands of Greeks and Romans and many others besides. Books have been written about where precisely the Olive was first domesticated but in an effort to not upset any one nation, we can probably say somewhere in the Eastern Mediterranean. We embarked on a project at the farm to trial commercial Olive growing here in the UK about 7 years ago and it has gone well enough to expand in recent years. On a sunny day amongst the silver beauties you could be convinced you were in Provence or Tuscany rather than Essex! Our varieties are selected for cold hardiness and potential to fruit in the UK climate.
